DID YOU KNOW?
This year Pancake Day is on the 8th March.
Pancake Day or
Shrove Tuesday (martes de carnaval) is the last day before the period which we, Christians, call
Lent (Cuaresma).
Lent is a time of abstinence, so Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to use up the food that isn´t allowed in Lent. Pancakes are eaten this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.
It is celebrated before
Ash Wednesday (Miércoles de Ceniza) and it is therefore the final day before the beginning of Lent.
It is traditional to eat pancakes in the UK this day and to take part in pancake races.
